In my experience, TheBalm eyeshadows tend to be drier in texture and aren't buttery smooth. That doesn't mean that they aren't good! Most of them are highly pigmented and easy to blend.

I compared this palette to my Meet Matte Trimony palette and the formula feels a bit more silky to the touch. I wouldn't say that all the colors are highly pigmented though! The first two rows are really nice, the color payoff is great and they are easy to blend. I've been using these shades quite a bit lately!

The darkest three colors are less than impressive though. The shades Matt Soto and Matt Lee aren't very pigmented, although this issue can be easily solved with a primer. My main complaint is that whenever I try to apply these two shades all over the lid, they are quite patchy! If I only wear them on the lash line, they look good... but I love to wear dark shades all over the lid so that's a bit of a bummer.

The deep royal blue is highly pigmented, but the formula is very grainy and prone to fall-outs. If you've ever used blue eyeshadows, you know that fall-outs are NOT a good thing! It can get messy really quickly and this particular shade tend to stain the skin too, so it's very difficult to work with.

Overall, I like most of the colors but I prefer the Meet Matt(e) Trimony palette even if the formula is less silky.

  1. I love The Balm packaging - it's always so cheeky! Bummer the dark colours weren't super pigmented.

  2. I bought the Opposites Attract Magnetic palette last month, what a deal it was half price $16.99 CAN at Marshall's vs $35 USD on official website. Contains shades from the palette you mentioned in your post. The empty palette itself is $12 USD. Was always looking to get a magnetic palette so I'm very pleased with this find.
