NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint

When I heard that NARS was going to release a new oil-free foundation, I knew I had to give it a try! Available in 12 shades, the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint is supposed to provide sheer-to-medium coverage while it controls shine and blurs imperfections.

NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint Review Swatches Terre-Neuve Finland Alaska Groenland St. Moritz

Terre-Neuve (Light 0) is the lightest shade, similar to Finland but slightly lighter and the undertones are a tad more pink. (NW13, maybe?)

Finland (Light 1) is a bit darker than NC10 and it has golden undertones.

Alaska (Light 2) is similar to NC20 and has golden undertones, it's great for olive skin tones as well. It's a good match for me when I don't use self tanner!

Groenland (Light 3) is similar to NC20 too, but it has peachy undertones. (I want to say NW20 but the undertones are more peachy than pink)

St. Moritz (Medium 1) is similar to NC30, it has peachy undertones. I wear this shade when I use self tanner, it looks a little bit orange on me but I can make it work.

The Velvet Matte Skin Tint has a thick creamy consistency and a velvet finish, it's not flat matte yet it doesn't have a luminous or dewy sheen. I would say it has light to medium coverage and it really minimizes the appearance of pores and help mattify my skin! My skin isn't matte all day, but even if I don't use a blotting sheet throughout the day my skin isn't an oily mess after more than 8 hours. I did apply some loose powder on the T-zone though, to set my makeup (because I always do, my skin is very oily!).

The finish is beautiful but be careful, this foundation can accentuate dry patches. It was more noticeable with the 'Light' shades. I don't think this product will be suitable for dry and/or mature skin types. The NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer would be much better if your skin is dry and you are looking for a good tinted moisturizer (the finish is slightly dewy though).

I like to apply it with my fingers or with a beautyblender, although I will have to admit that the finish was more natural-looking with the beautyblender. I tried it with my beloved NeoStrata Oil Free Matifying Fluid and didn't like it, but Make Up For Ever's Step 1 Smoothing Primer works great with this foundation.

Right now my skin is a bit too dry (and still oily, the struggle is real!) to wear it, but it will be a great product for the summertime or to bring on vacation!
