Today, we are talking about a very popular drugstore foundation! Now available in 23 shades, Catrice's HD Liquid Coverage Foundation provides high coverage and a natural looking finish. In addition, this lightweight foundation mattifies the skin and is said to last up to 24 hours!

Formula-wise, this is a very thin foundation. It dries quite fast, although I don't have any issue when I apply it with a Beautyblender.
It doesn't leave an oily or sticky film on the skin, in fact it feels very lightweight!
The coverage is impressive for such a thin formula, I would say it's medium coverage with one layer and full coverage with two.
I always only apply one layer though, and add a bit of concealer where I need it, because I find that it can look cakey with two layers.
The finish is matte, but much to my surprise it doesn't accentuate dry patches too much. I do recommend to apply the HD Liquid Coverage Foundation with a damp Beautyblender though, as applying it with my fingertips didn't give me the best results.
My skin is oily but dehydrated, so I prefer to apply it over an hydrating or smoothing primer. I've tried it with these 3 primers and had great results: NARS' Smooth & Protect Primer, Laura Mercier's new Pure Canvas Hydrating Primer and Urban Decay's new All Nighter Face Primer.
I tried it with Make Up For Ever's Step 1 Mattifying Primer too and it made the foundation look a bit more dry and cakey, although it was barely noticeable from a normal viewing distance. With that being said, I would only use a mattifying primer with this foundation if your skin is very oily.
When I set this foundation with a light dusting of loose powder and a makeup setting spray, it lasts at least 12 hours without breaking down!
As for the mattifying properties, it stays completely matte for about 2 hours on my oily skin. The finish is dewier after that period of time, but I only need to powder my nose and forehead after 3½ hours.
Just a word of caution if your skin is sensitive to fragrance though; this foundation is strongly scented. My skin is sensitive and so far it doesn't seem to trigger my eczema, but I wish it was unscented.
Overall this is a surprisingly good foundation, especially for normal to oily skin types! And for a price that doesn't hurt your bank account? Yes please!

I really like this foundation! I find it oxidizes a little the more I use it, but the formula is good!
ReplyDeleteReally? I haven't noticed! Maybe it depends on the shade?
DeleteI love pink undertones, but I wonder if this foundation will work for more brown skin tones?
ReplyDeleteYes they have more shades than that, I only received 2 of the shades for deeper skin tones.
DeleteLove the way you compare the shades with mac studio fix. So helpful.
ReplyDeleteYay!! I'm glad it's helpful!
DeleteI've been looking for a new matte foundation and I really like the look of this one. Thanks for comparing and for the pics. This is really helpful.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!! :)
DeleteI LOVE your reviews and comparing the shades to Mac is really helpful
ReplyDeleteAbout this foundation I love it.I have combo-dry skin and it looks good when I moisturize before applying it.it has amazing longevity on my skin too
Thank you so much, I'm glad it was helpful! Yes the staying power surprised me, too!
DeleteI love the comparisons and am dying to try this foundation. I'm NC25. Where would I be? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Amy,
DeleteUnfortunately they don't have a shade similar to NC25, but I would mix the shades 008 Fair Beige and 036 Hazelnut Beige!
I'm having a hard time choosing a (new) Catrice foundation. I have used 030 Sand Beige (I think they renamed them recently) and it's an ok match but a little too pink on me. Not sure if 010 Light would be too light or if 032 Nude would be better. I have tried 036 Hazelnut and it was way too dark. Other brands where I have a perfect match are Teint Idole Ultra Wear 24H Long Wear Foundation 140N Ivory, Bare Minerals Fairly Light 003, Physicians Formula The Healthy Foundation LN4, and Thrive Cosmetics Light. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with Mac. Would you be able to make a recommendation for Catrice based on this? Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteHi Ines,
DeleteI'm afraid 010 Light would be too light, and 032 Nude is more neutral (less pink) but it's a bit darker than 030 Sand.
Hi Kristelle, which shade did you use please? Thanks
ReplyDeleteHi Charly, I think it was the shade 010 Light Beige!
DeleteHi. I tried the bronze beige which is a shade dark for me. Which would be a shade lighter than the bronze beige.
ReplyDeleteHi, sadly I only got 2 of the darkest shade. Sorry!
DeleteHi, I love your review. very helpful. quick question though: I am a little darker than nc10 but more pale than nc15. i am more warm toned. would you recommand 002 or 005
