Y225 Marble (was 117 in the original formula) is a good match if MAC's foundations in NC15 are still a bit too dark for you, this shade is a tad lighter than NC15.

Y315 Sand (was 125 in the original formula) is similar to NC30, although the undertones are a bit more beige than a typical NC shade (less yellow).

Y415 Almond (was 128 in the original formula) is a good match for a N40, it's a neutral shade with beige undertones. It's the perfect shade for me when I'm very tan and I like to mix it with Y315 when I need a darker shade. I already had this shade in the old formula and it's the same color, for those of you who are wondering.

This will be an awesome foundation to have in your makeup kit if you are a makeup artist because it can work for pretty much all skin types and it looks really good on camera. The semi-matte finish and silky (yet not greasy) formula allows you to use a mattifying or illuminating primer depending on the skin type and the desired finish.

Compared to the original HD foundation, this new formula gives a bit more coverage and the texture is less oily, more silky. It provides medium but buildable coverage and the finish isn't luminous or dewy on me, it's semi-matte. Honestly, I don't see a big difference between both formulas but I do prefer this one for my oily skin. It doesn't keep my skin matte all day and I still recommend to set it with some loose powder, but it's not supposed to be a mattifying foundation anyway.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation Review Before After Y315 NC30

My skin is very oily so I've experimented with a few different mattifying primers. I didn't like the results with Make Up For Ever's Step 1 Mattifying Primer and NeoStrata's Oil Free Matifying Fluid, it looked a bit cakey. However, this foundation works great with Becca's Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector, Make Up For Ever's Step 1 Smoothing Primer and Illamasqua's Matte Veil!

I've tested this foundation with different methods too and while I had great results with my fingers, I did prefer to apply it with a damp Beautyblender!

  1. I also think that both are pretty much the same. I simply prefer my shade in the old version it was less yellow. One question, you have oily skin which foundation do you like with a medium to full coverage?

    1. Oh and none of the new shades match you? For medium to full coverage, I love NARS All Day Luminous which has a semi-matte finish too. (but I think you already tried this one?) I also love Clarins Everlasting+ which gives medium to full coverage but has a luminous finish without looking greasy. Speaking of luminous foundations, I really love them even if my skin is oily! It looks more natural than a matte finish and my skin is shiny after a few hours anyway, no matter which foundation I wear. The trick is to use a good matifying primer and set them with some loose powder.

    2. I tried a sample of the All Day Luminous but I’m still indecisive if I should get it or no. It’s the same for me, I like luminous foundation at the moment, and they make my skin look so healthy. Thank you for the recommendations they were very. I will try the Clarins one after hearing so many good things.

    1. I only have a sample of the shade 5.0, which is NOT a good match for Almond. :/ Sorry I can't help!
