St. Tropez Self Tan Extra Dark Bronzing Mousse

For Summer 2018, St. Tropez has released its deepest and darkest self-tanner to date! Suitable for all skin tones, the Extra Dark Bronzing Mousse can be rinsed off after 4 hours for a dark tan or after 8 hours for an extra dark tan.

Let me start off by saying that this mousse is very dark! I highly recommend to use a tanning mitt because it will stain your hands in a matter of seconds and it's very hard to wash off.

The Extra Dark Bronzing Mousse has a very dark greenish brown guide color, as you can see on this photo. I know the green tint might freak some of you, but it's the key to achieving a natural-looking tan (green helps to neutralize red undertones, so the tan is golden instead of orange).

This product is a bit hard to blend and the guide color looks streaky on the skin, but my tan doesn't look streaky or patchy when I wash off the guide color after 4 or 8 hours. The tanning mitt makes the application process much easier and really helps to achieve an even tan.

It may not be the best product for you if you are new to self-tanners, though. I would suggest trying the St. Tropez Express Bronzing Mousse instead, and rinse it off after 1-2 hours. With the Express bronzing mousse, you can always leave it longer on your skin when you are ready for a darker tan.

This is how my skin looks once the guide color is rinsed off. I haven't noticed a huge difference if I rinse it off after 4 hours or wait the full 8 hours. It doesn't look much darker, but I think the tan looks a bit more golden?

I don't know, I really can't see the difference! Maybe it has something to do with the fact that my skin is extremely fair?

By the way, I don't have the Dark Bronzing Mousse anymore so I can't compare it, but I can say that the Extra Dark formula is darker than the Express Bronzing Mousse and the original Bronzing Mousse.

This product gives me a golden brown tan, it doesn't look orange even on my very fair skin. This self-tanner is specifically formulated to adapt to any skin tone, so the tan will be more intense on darker complexions.

My tan lasts 7 days max before it goes patchy, so I usually scrub it all off and reapply a fresh layer of bronzing mousse every week.

I find that the fragrance is stronger in this mousse, it smells a bit like laundry detergent. I can detect a faint smell of DHA after a few hours, but I mainly smell the fresh fragrance and it all goes away when I wash off the guide color.

The only thing I dislike about St. Tropez bronzing mousses, is that all of them are sticky and take a long time to dry. And this one is no exception, sadly.

However, I find that they don't dry out my skin as much as other brands, so I don't feel the need to moisturize my skin as frequently. It all depends on what you prefer, would you prefer to endure sticky skin for a few hours or moisturize your skin every day?

  1. C'est ma marque préférée d'auto-bronzant, mais c'ets vrai que ça met du temps à sécher.

    1. Oui je trouve ça pénible à chaque fois, mais la couleur en vaut la peine!

  2. That swatch shows some crazy dedication! Thanks for the review 😊

    1. You're welcome! The things I would do for this blog. haha
