NARS Single Eyeshadows (new formula)

Did you know NARS reformulated their single eyeshadows earlier this year? Now available in 60 matte and shimmery shades, the versatile formula can be applied wet or dry and provides rich color payoff in a single brush stroke!

Let's start with the matte shades! Bengali and Sophia are silky smooth, while the other 3 colors (Fatale, Sultan and Ganges) feel drier to the touch. They are very pigmented, even more so if I apply them over an eyeshadow primer. Sultan is slightly sheerer, but the color is buildable.

By the way, I didn't use a primer for these swatches, so you can only imagine how incredible the color payoff is with an eyeshadow primer!

Fatale and Sultan look slightly shimmery in the pan but they are matte on my skin! Ganges isn't completely matte, but I can barely see the shimmers when I apply it on my lids.

Bengali, Sophia, Sultan and Fatale blend out like a charm! I noticed that the shade Ganges can look a bit patchy though, and it doesn't blend out easily.

NARS Single Eyeshadows New 2018 Review Photos

I included Argentina and Earthshine in this review, but they are part of the Hardwired collection and the formula is very different. These eyeshadows are packed with glitters and have a chunky consistency. I like the shade Earthshine, but Argentina is too powdery and sheer for my liking.

Both shades look significantly better if I apply them with a dampened brush, but it's not my favorite formula.

NARS Single Eyeshadows New Formula 2018 Review Shades

The shades Virgin Gorda and Banquise are perfect, they are buttery smooth and super pigmented even without a primer! I highly recommend these two eyeshadows, if you love these colors!

Isla Bonita feels buttery smooth too, but unfortunately it looks very powdery and chalky on my skin. It contains micro glitters too so I highly suggest to apply it with your fingers, as you may end up with micro glitters all over your face if you apply it with a brush. Overall, I'm not a fan of this particular shade.

The shade Verona is less pigmented than the other shimmery colors so it needs to be applied over an eyeshadow primer, but I love this one! I like to apply it with my fingers too, it makes the color look more rich and vibrant.

Fez is another great shade, and probably my favorite out of the 12 shades I had the opportunity to test out! This bronze is highly pigmented and the formula is very smooth!

  1. Wow what a thorough post! Love your photos too! I've been on the fence about these given I found the original formula really hit or miss.

    1. Turbosan is burgundy brown on me, while Argentina is more like an indigo purple! It's strange because Turbosan looks purple on some of the swatches I've seen.
