Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation

A year ago Make Up For Ever launched their Matte Velvet Skin Foundation, but did you know that the brand also came out with a powder foundation with the same name? Available in 30 shades, the Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation is a full coverage powder with a natural-looking matte finish. Its long-lasting formula is supposed to smooth skin and visibly reduce the appearance of pores while absorbing oils!

This powder has a very silky texture and feels like nothing on the skin! It comes with a double-sided sponge, so you can choose the level of coverage you want. Make Up For Ever suggests to use the white side of the applicator for sheer coverage, or the black side for full coverage. The white side is also great for touch ups, as it doesn't add too much product on the skin.

I love how you can build up the coverage if needed, but I find that it looks a bit cakey when I try to achieve full coverage. I prefer to apply just enough product to unify my complexion, and add a bit of corrector where I need more coverage.

I wouldn't describe the finish as totally matte, the finish is satin matte with a very subtle luminosity. Also, it doesn't accentuate dry skin as much as other powder foundations! It looks a bit powdery at first, but by the time I finish the rest of my makeup it has that beautiful skin-like finish.

As for the lasting power, it really lasts 12 hours without separating but I can see some of my imperfections peeking through the foundation by the 10 hours mark.

It doesn't keep my skin shine-free for a long time, my skin is already dewy after 1½ hours, and I need to use a blotting sheet after 3 hours. I like the dewy look, I'm just surprised because powder foundations usually look very matte on the skin!

My skin is super oily though, so I'm sure it would stay matte for a longer period of time on normal or dry skin types!

With that being said, powder foundations aren't my favorite type of foundation. I reach for liquid foundations more often! Don't get me wrong, I still love them and use them every time I do my makeup, just not the way you might think. In fact, I can't live without powder foundations!

Here's what I do: I usually apply my liquid foundation and add a small amount of corrector where I need more coverage. My favorite is Make Up For Ever's Full Cover but I used it all up, so these days I use L'Oréal's Full Wear More Than Concealer.

And then, I add a bit of Matte Velvet Skin Powder Foundation with a small round brush (I always use Make Up For Ever's brush #140 for this, and no I'm not getting paid to mention their products in this post lol) only where I want more coverage. And finally, I set everything with a bit of loose powder and my Skindinavia Makeup Setting Spray!

This is my favorite makeup tip for those angry red pimples and dark acne scars, and it looks way more natural than if I try to apply 2 layers of foundation and corrector to cover up all my imperfections.

Overall, this would be a great all-in-one foundation for those of you who are looking for a quick and easy to apply foundation that doesn't look ultra powdery on the skin!

I personally only apply it where I need extra coverage, because that's how I usually use powder foundations, but I can say that this one is fabulous!
